Astro Motors, an emerging Electric Vehicle company that has successfully designed and manufactured the world’s first manual electric three-wheeler vehicle and bagged a purchase order to deliver 1000 units of its model, the Astro Triyaan NAVYA. Several electric vehicles (EVs) manufactured by Astro Motors are currently undergoing a pilot run across various parts of India by logistics companies like SKS Cleantech and Loadex Supply Chain Solutions.

Astro Motors‘ current model, the Astro Triyaan NAVYA, is a cargo three-wheeler L5 segment vehicle powered by a 10.2 kwh battery having a payload capacity of 635 kgs with a range of 120kms and a electronically limited top speed of 50 kmph. Mr. Vitan Jagada, Founder of Astro Motors,said, “We are elated with the success and response that we are receiving for our three-wheelers. While we see this as just the beginning of the EV market in India, we are already planning to increase our manufacturing capacities. In the ongoing pilot run of Astro Navya, the vehicle has been outperforming most of the three-wheelers in this space and is able to reach to the last mile of connectivity. In the near future, we will also be delivering at least 3000 units to these companies, and we are in the final phase of the discussions.”

The Astro NAVYA, is also the first three-wheeler electric vehicle to successfully conquer the world’s highest motorable road at Umling La Pass, located in Ladakh at 19,024 ft. The vehicles have effectively been tested across different terrains and weather conditions in various parts of India, demonstrating their capabilities of penetrating the EV market by delivering high-performance three-and reliable vehicles.

Electric three-wheeler maker Astro Motors has set a new record by taking their electric vehicle, the Astro Navya, to Umling La Pass – the world’s highest motorable road. Umling La is located in Ladakh, and the altitude is 19,024 feet.

Apart from the marketing exercise, by driving their electric three-wheeler to Umling La, Astro Motors have successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the EV. The vehicle can be deployed in a host of regions across India, from the old and steep mountain lands of Ladakh to the extreme heat of Delhi and Gujarat to hilly and extremely high moisture areas of Maharashtra and high traffic zones of Bengaluru.

The three-wheeler cargo vehicle is powered by an electric motor and a 10.2 kWh battery pack. It has a payload capacity of 630 kg and a top speed of 50 km/h. The EV uniquely gets a manual transmission mated to the electric motor.

The Astro Navya was driven by Pratiksha Das, who is India’s first female BEST licensed driver. Apart from the challenges of High Altitude, there was also the difficulty of a very cold climate. However, the thin air and the sub-zero temperatures did not affect the Navya. It was especially because the vehicle was driven with a full-rated payload of 630 kg.

Given the rising demand for doorstep delivery and the emergence of e-commerce, there is a need for last-mile connectivity for the delivery of cargo. The L5 segment, in which electric cargo vehicles fall, has shown a YoY growth of 101.32%. EVs currently comprise 1% of total sales, and the figure is expected to increase to 2% for the current year. The Government of India has also set a target to increase the adoption of EVs.

A cargo vehicle is constantly on the move in different conditions like bad roads, uncertain weather etc. so keeping all factors in mind we achieved the final design and ran multiple tests for clients across the country. We tested Astro NAVYA on the toughest roads, under harshest weather conditions and roughest driving patterns. So The final frontier of Conquering the highest motorable road in the world without any difficulties or breakdowns was a milestone achievement for us and now we are extremely confident about our upcoming designs for future product launches.
